Selecting a consultant

To ensure you receive a quality service that effectively meets your needs, below are some suggested questions when considering a consultant.

  1. What services can you provide to meet my needs?
    Do you have ‘packages’ or services that can be tailored to our organisation’s needs?

    - Can you develop something specifically for us?
    - Who ‘owns’ that package?(intellectual property)
    - What is your specific expertise?

       * How have you developed that? (formal & experiencial)
       * How does your personal experience of disability inform the service you provide?
       * To what extent is your experience of your disability able to be generalised to other disabilities/issues re the service you provide.
  2. What are the costs/service fee structure?

    - Does this include any support or additional costs you may incur?
    - Do you have insurances – what and how much?
  3. What guarantee is provided in relation to quality of service provision and adherence to time lines?

    - Do you have/can we agree to a contract that provides for delivery of specific outcomes with & quality indicators, with a timeframe (deliverables & dates)?
  4. What are some projects in which the services performed are similar to the requested project?
  5. Can you provide me with the contact details of referees and past clients who have used your service? Can I contact these people?
